Launch Effect is a fully free WordPress theme with a very simple approach. The theme is a one-page design that goes at the front of your new WordPress install, letting your visitors get a sneak peak for what you are releasing and allowing them to sign up for  more information over email once it is here.

These interest-sparking intro screens are a very good way of promoting your unreleased product or website and gathering a user base even before you have the final release product available.

Web Design 101: Creating Your First WordPress Theme

Because I have gotten tons of questions about starting to develop WordPress themes, I’ll be holding a FREE webinar on how to create you first WordPress theme on May 17th at 2p.m EDT. You don’t have to register in advance at all. Simply go to the webinar page to find out the exact in your time zone and mark the time in your calendar. The webinar room itself will be open roughly 15 minutes before the webinar starts.

In the webinar I’ll be showing you how WordPress themes are built-up and at the same time show you how to move from a design done in HTML code into a WordPress theme.

I hope you’ll join me on May 17, 2p.m EDT for the free webinar.

Jetpack

The folks at WordPress released a new plugin today that aims to bring some WordPress.com functionality right into your hosted WordPress site. It is called Jetpack and will give you a bunch of good features through just this one plugin. The features are stats, sharing, spell/grammar checking and other very nice enhancements to your site.

I am quite intrigued about this new plugin. It works well and is simple to install and use. I feel this is perfect for a lot of people, saving much work when trying to find and install plugins.Plus, Jetpack offers just what most people need. Of course the brilliant part of it is the simplicity, which has always been WordPress’ key thing.

To be honest, it is going to be great to teach people how they now even simpler can add some extra functionality quickly and easily, and I shall definitely cover this in my upcoming webinar, “Building a WordPress Portfolio Website in 60 Minutes” on March 21.

I’m always looking for new and cool plugins and feature additions for my sites and being that the WordPress community is so large and ever-evolving, you can always find something new.

SexyBookmarks!

SexyBookmarks

SexyBookmarks is a recent plugin I found that gives a nice style to sharing links (publishing articles on Digg, Facebook, Twitter and more). I installed it the other day on this site and a couple more of mine, it just looks great, don’t you agree?

Have you used SexyBookmarks or do you have another favorite? Let me know in the comments!
