Career Tools PodcastLinked off a forum I browse occasionally, FlyerTalk, was a link to a podcast episode about packing. I clicked and went to listen to the episode and found it pretty good. What I didn’t expect to find was a golden podcast called Career Tools. The podcast is hosted by Mark Horstman and Mike Auzenne who do an excellent job of sharing dos and don’ts in order to sharpen your career skills.

Seeing as the podcast is free, I suggest you go ahead and visit their website and listen to a few of the half-hour shows and see what you think.

Web Design 101: Creating Your First WordPress Theme

Because I have gotten tons of questions about starting to develop WordPress themes, I’ll be holding a FREE webinar on how to create you first WordPress theme on May 17th at 2p.m EDT. You don’t have to register in advance at all. Simply go to the webinar page to find out the exact in your time zone and mark the time in your calendar. The webinar room itself will be open roughly 15 minutes before the webinar starts.

In the webinar I’ll be showing you how WordPress themes are built-up and at the same time show you how to move from a design done in HTML code into a WordPress theme.

I hope you’ll join me on May 17, 2p.m EDT for the free webinar.

Adobe Eazel for iPad

Back when Adobe announced CS5.5 on April 11, they also showed off some brand new iPad applications that interact with Photoshop as part of the new Photoshop SDK. These may just be example apps to show off the functionality of the SDK, but they are pretty darn cool and all of them are available in the iTunes App Store today.

  • Adobe Eazel: Paint on the iPad and access it through Photoshop.
  • Adobe Nav: Use the iPad as a tool selector for Photoshop.
  • Adobe Color Lava: Blend custom colors together for use in Photoshop.

jQuery Mobile Framework

I have been aware of the jQuery Mobile framework for quite a while but never had a good reason to try it out and mess with it and because of that, it has fallen to the back of my brain. It was good being reminded of it again by Greg Rewis this Monday since it does all sorts of cool stuff.

Basically the jQuery Mobile framework lets you create web apps for smartphones in a very quick way. It contains an optimized layout, made for touch-screen devices (Android and iOS and more). All you need to do is include the framework and using its functionality to add your own content and features. The best bit is still that you don’t need to write the same code that already exists for nice page transitions etc. Instead all you need to do is leverage this in your development. Everyone is happy!

By the way, if you’re using Dreamweaver CS5.5 (the new release from Adobe), it is a seriously awesome jQuery editor with probably the best jQuery and jQuery Mobile support in any code editor out there.
