The Walker Organ in the Church of Christ the King in Gothenburg

Most often on this blog I write about technology but every once in a while I switch gears to my other big passion: music. Today I have been attending an organ improvisation seminar by none other than the Swedish organ improviser extraordinaire, Anders Bondeman who did, perhaps his last seminar/master class on organ improvisation.

Let me tell you that this was an absolutely unforgettable experience. It has been long since I have gained so much knowledge and inspiration during the approximately 5-6 hours that the event took. If you live locally here in Gothenburg, watch out for the next time I’m playing a service because I’ll be using some of his new knowledge as soon as I can!

Sweeeeet! :)

Bit.ly is one of the leaders in URL shortening

Last week I got thinking when I saw the new Adobe short URLs that they are using (adobe.ly) and figured that it is not a bad idea to follow on the idea of doing custom URL shortening for my company, Bernskiold Media. Whilst thinking about this, I remembered what my friend A.J. Wood did back a long time ago, specifically starting to do his own URL shortening.

Primarily this will give visitors and fans of Bernskiold Media a sense of security, because whenever they see a link shortened with the domain bmedia.co, they know it is solid and valid content that has been shortened by us. So just the other day I got invited to the Bit.ly Pro beta which I applied for. There is really only one reason why I chose them: They are really good at what they do. Plus, it does help that the service is free.

Setup was a breeze and now, all links posted from Bernskiold Learning and Bernskiold Media will all be shortened based on bmedia.co, just like this example here which will take you to the article I wrote on Monday on 11 Important Steps to Optimize WordPress and Increase Performance: http://bmedia.co/ghtHyG

Tell me, do you use a custom URL shortening domain or do you just use the general ones?

I’m very excited about the brand new Mac App Store released yesterday, not only because I think that that the store makes finding new and unknown apps relatively easy and that it removes the “How to install apps?” barrier for new and non-computer-savvy users.

The other reason why I am intrigued by the launch is for companies and especially all IT departments worldwide. This thought was sparked by my friend Peter, as we were tweeting about the possibilities for Apple to offer an instant download of all your apps. Here is where the store could be a blessing.

Mac App Store Applications

One Purchase – Unlimited Computers

When seeing a few tweets this morning from Don McAllister who was wondering over if Apple imposed the same 5 device limit to application as it does in the iTunes Store, almost everyone had been agreeing to the fact that surely that would be the case.

After a little digging, Don found a text in the help files that says that you can use a purchased application on any number of computers that you have.

Travelling 06 Jan 2011

CeBITA couple of days ago I booked my trip to the biggest IT and tech expo/conference in Europe, CeBIT in Hannover, Germany. This year, it will be held March 1-5 and I will be making a quick trip down and attend on the 4th. I’m pretty excited about going since, as far as I’ve heard, it is such an overwhelming expo and at the biggest fair in the world in Hannover.

This year’s top theme will be cloud computing which of course is at great interest to me so it will be fun going and see what is new from every vendor imaginable.

Is anyone else going to be there?

Jawbone Icon: Hero

After seriously misplacing my standard Apple headset to the point where I have no idea where it is (this hardly ever happens to me), I decided it was time to get a gadget that I have been wanting to get for quite some time, a bluetooth headset. As I make quite a few calls where I love being handsfree, I wanted to try out the wireless handsfree options as well to see how it works for me.

What I picked up was a Jawbone Icon both because I’ve seen it around a lot and because it got a great review from my buddy Terry White. Read on for my impressions on the headset.
